We design a novel cloud-computing ecosystem that disrupts the current status quo in this multibillion Euros industry, which remains vulnerable to the triple whammy of privacy, security & interoperability,
costing trillions in annual global losses. Within the broad field of ICT, cloud computing is the only area EU
lags behind. Our PSIaaS solution disrupts current incumbents, who are largely locked in to non-European
interests dominating the market, such as Amazon, IBM, Microsoft, Google, Salesforce, etc. To attenuate or
reverse such dominance, EU needs a tech that’s significantly disruptive and also non-intimidating to the
competitors. PSIaaS excels in both. It restores the lost opportunity to European SMEs, industries & public
sector, and potentially puts an end to the US dominance via PSIaaS’ unique “complement not compete”
The project expands the current cloud continuum horizontally & vertically from current 3-layered continuum to a more secure 4-layered continuum based on a “Compliance by Design” architecture that adds privacy, security & interoperability (PSI) to any legacy cloud service in a PSI-as-a-S model to federate a multi-cloud ecosystem. We achieve this by deploying LIQUIDUS technology that creates user-friendly decentralized personal online data stores (PODs) for users & makes such personal data available to any app that needs it via an API at the user’s behest, enabling PSI by default in the world’s first commercially viable PSI-as-a-S business model. The PSIaaS innovation is user friendly providing seamless service environments for end-users, who need no extra training or extra steps than they are conventionally used to in classical IT systems. PSIaaS creates new opportunities for developers by providing them APIs to integrate PSI into new cloud apps they develop, or upgrade any existing service for GDPR compliance. However, the biggest beneficiaries will be companies that use cloud to service their customers, and spend large amounts in retaining full-time compliance teams vis-à-vis PSIaaS. Therefore, with GDPR in force the timing for PSIaaS cloud infrastructure adaptation is opportune.
Our ambition is to disrupt the techno-economic equation, and boost Europe's leadership in the field. 13 entities (7 from industry, 5 universities & 1 non-profit) from 8 countries bring together multidisciplinary expertise gained from 30+ EU-funded cloud-related projects that feed into this project. Strategically, the project’s results will translate to either ending the US dominance of cloud computing market, or at least attenuate the gap that exists, harvesting the socio-economic benefits of a cloud-computing ecosystem that’s compliant by design. PSIaaS also gives a boost to the EC’s impetus in regulating cloud computing (via GDPR), and its ambitions to become an important global player in enabling the next generation Internet.
